Provincial Police are sending out another reminder about ice safety, after a truck went through the surface on Lake Nipissing in North Bay over the weekend.
Officers say the driver was trying to cross a pressure crack near an island, and a tow truck was needed to bring the vehicle back to safety. No injuries have been reported.
Police stress the importance of double-checking the ice thickness before going on it, and conditions can change dramatically from lake to lake.
And, with the warmer temperatures we’ve had as of late, there are some areas where open water is already being seen.
“Drivers of snowmobiles, passenger vehicles and all-terrain vehicles that travel on ice for recreational purposes have a responsibility to ensure that the ice can support the weight of the vehicle being used.”
