Hey KICX Country, not sure if you know this but I am a volunteer and board member at the Sudbury Therapeutic Riding Program. Our season is kicking up the first week of June and we are looking for some people to help us out with our classes this season.  Classes are slated to start the first week of June on Mondays and Tuesdays with the possibility of running on Wednesdays as well. Class starts at 6 and end by 8pm. Volunteers aged 14 years of age and older are welcome!

The Sudbury Therapeutic Riding Program relies on the dedication and support of our volunteers to make a difference in the lives of our riders. We are always looking for volunteers to assist with our lessons with the riders.

What we ask for:
• Each of our riding sessions are 5 weeks (3 hrs/a night, lesson nights to be scheduled Monday-
Wednesday) in duration, and this season we will be operating from June to October.
•  Any level of horse experience welcomed (none to very), training to be provided.
•  Police checks required.
•  For the safety of our riders and our volunteers, you will need the ability to understand and carry
out direct instructions. Both the leader and side walker positions require some physical
endurance and good verbal communication skills.

What’s in it for you:
• Complete your volunteer hours (educational requirement) and/or professional references can
be given upon experience with the program.
• Gain new knowledge, skills and experience while getting active!
• Police checks can be reimbursed upon commitment with the program.

Volunteer Roles:

Side Walker Position
• The side walker is responsible for the rider and gives physical support to the rider or assists
the rider with the instructor’s direction.
• Your role will vary depending on the needs of each rider. Some riders will require physical
support ranging in hold types. The instructor will explain the support method best suited for
your rider.
• Assist with grooming of horse and care of tack
• ALL HORSE EXPERIENCE WELCOME (none to very experienced)

Leader Position
• Horse experience required (with time volunteers can learn this position) as responsible for the
horse at all times
• Will assist with leading transitions (halt, walk and trot) and completing tasks as per instructor
• Mindful of side walkers and others in the area
• Familiar with grooming and tacking up a horse
